AU/PG/CANON/OC: Megaman Star Force video game canon, after SF3 endgame.

Summary:

  • Three years before the beginning of the first game, the space station Peace abruptly vanished on its trek to find and build relationships with other beings in space. One of the astronauts is Subaru's father, Daigo, and the loss causes him to become sullen and withdrawn to the point of him withdrawing from school.

  • Subaru receives his father's Visualizer from a family friend, and goes out stargazing at a treasured place. While doing so, an alien with a Denpa body crashes into him, and doing so activates the Visualizer's true abilities - the ability to see Denpa in perfect clarity, and the Wave World that connects the world's technology.

  • This means he can see and talk with the alien that crashed into him: War-Rock, defector of Planet FM and apparently knows Subaru's father. An attack by viruses causes the two to go into hasty negotiations: if War-Rock can use Subaru's body to unleash his real power, he'll tell Subaru more about how he met his father in space. Unleashing his real power means fusing with Subaru. Ha. This transformation into someone who straddles both the Real and Wave Worlds is the new birth of Rockman!
  • So it turns out that  War-Rock has the super powerful Andromeda Key that controls the FMian's world destroying weapon and a bunch of elite soldiers from FM are trying to get it back. This results in many battles with FMians possessing humans near Subaru by "filling the emptiness in their hearts," basically confronting them at a time of great emotional turmoil and capitalizing on it. All the fights with FMians end up being emotionally significant developments for Subaru, because they are with humans who's fears mirror Subaru's own that grew from the time he lost his father.
  • These fights with the FMians often lead to him forming friendships or bonds with the people he fought. The most significant among them are Harp Note, who becomes his first Brother and friend, Misora, and Gemini Spark, who is Pat the first person Subaru asks to become his Brother without apprehension (and also the one who betrays him, sending him into a temporary regression back to his previous self).
  • At the end of all the fights against the FMians, Cepheus, the FM King and the ultimate planet destroyer Andromeda are the final battle. After a long and grueling battle, Rockman defeats Andromeda, and even saves Cepheus from being devoured by the weapon in its death throes. When Cepheus reveals that his motivation for destroying Earth was that he believed that their offer of friendship was a lie, just like all others before him in an attempt to steal the throne, Subaru offers to befriend him for real. This stops the FMian invasion of Earth and accomplishes the mission set forward by the Peace so long ago.
  • While on the Peace, Subaru learns two important things. The first is that his father is alive, as War-Rock turned him into denpa to allow him to escape the space station Peace, which had been captured by the FMians thinking it was an invasion attempt. However, they were separated, and so Daigo is still lost in space. The second is that War-Rock is actually an AM-ian from the destroyed Planet AM, but spending time with Subaru had cooled his desire for revenge that had led to him stealing the Andromeda Key in the first place. The two reveals bring the boy and the alien closer as friends and partners.
  • Some months later, a scientist looking to revive the ancient god of denpa from the ancient civilization of Mu starts causing havoc in the world. Stumbling across this plot through a series of events staged by her lackeys and their Murian partners leads Subaru into their plot, and a second trial to save the world. Unfortunately, this leads to him nearly being taken over by an OOPart-a massively powerful artifact that contains the furious spirits of the destroyed tribe that created them.
  • Subaru starts having a mental crisis when people start seeing him and recognize him as a hero, as it causes him to doubt that he can live up to that responsibility. This only is furthered when Solo, a boy who shuns relationships and what BrotherBands stand for, manages to make most of his friends vanish before his eyes before Subaru can save them. It takes him learning what true courage is-trying even if you'd fail, because at least you can leave something for the ones watching you to be inspired by-to get over this mental breakdown and the OOPart attempting to take control of his body. After getting over this breakdown, he is able to save the world from the revival of the Murian Empire.
  • A few months later, the world's technology is growing more advanced, with materialized denpa producing many things, especially Wizards that act as a personal assistants to people. Unfortunately, this also leads to an increase in Noise, the waste product of denpa technology, and it starts driving Wizards and other devices out of control. A mysterious group named Dealer starts purposefully driving Wizards out of control, and Subaru has to stop the chaos that arises from these plots.
  • Subaru befriends Jack and becomes acquainted with his sister Tia. Both are Dealer agents that were specifically sent to gather data on him, and they drive powerful Wizards that he meets out of control in his presence. When he finally finds them out, he is hurt and betrayed, but it doesn't stop him from trying to fight them off. Unfortunately, this conflict leads to Luna getting essentially killed by the Dealer Wizard Joker right in front of him when he comes to collect the two wayward agents.
  • This loss throws Subaru's group of friends into turmoil. However, his growth as a person over the last two games allows him to be the leader in Luna's place, and he continuously works to reassure them that things will be alright, that Luna must still be with them if her BrotherBand is still active. He is proven to be right when it's revealed that she was turned into data and scattered across the Wave World, and goes through the long, grueling process to recover her data and reconstruct her while still reassuring his friends that they will make it through despite all the odds continuously being stacked against them.
  • After Luna's recovery, Subaru vows to stop Dealer and their plans, and joins a small squad led by one of the Satella Police's top officers, Ace. Through their efforts, they are able to locate and storm Dealer's hidden base. However, the operation ends with Ace sacrificing himself to stop Joker from self-destructing and destroying them, and the leader of Dealer, Mr. King, escaping. It takes some reassurance from his friends before Subaru can get over this death and start to locate Dealer's hidden orbital base in order to stop Mr. King from controlling a large comet made up of Noise: Meteor G.
  • Before Subaru can travel up to Meteor G to stop it, he stumbles across a dying messenger from Planet FM. On finding that it's being attacked, he spends a day traveling towards it, deleting strong copies of enemies that he's fought over the past few months on the way. He finds out that the attacker is a powerful denpa being that can control black holes, named Sirius, and he intends to add Planet FM to his collection inside a black hole server. After fighting down Solo to decide which can be saved-the Mu Metal that can only be taken after FM is destroyed, or after FM itself-Subaru finds himself propositioned by Sirius to be added to that same collection. He refuses, and deletes the powerful being, ending up with the Mu Metal inside of him so that he's fated to fight Solo in a never ending cycle until one or the other is deleted.
  • Subaru, through the efforts of the friends he'd made while opposing Dealer, is able to travel up into space towards the Meteor G that Jack and Tia has taken control of from Mr. King, and move to destroy it. From them, he also finds out that his father is actually on Meteor G, and has been working tirelessly to restrain its true powers so that Mr. King wasn't able to use it to its full potential. Subaru powers through Meteor G's comp space, and comes face to face with Mr. King at last, who fuses himself with the meteor's cybercore and absorbs Daigo in order to become Crimson Dragon, with the intent of slamming the meteor into Earth if he's unable to use it to rule. Subaru takes up this final battle and is able to win, however the effort of destroying Meteor G leaves him listless and drifting in space. When the whole world makes a universal Purpose to bring him home, the energy from this makes a Purpose Wave that Daigo and War-Rock use to send him home, and he's reunited with both of them two weeks later.

At first glance, Hoshikawa Subaru has the personality of a typical eleven year old boy-chipper, full of energy, eager to meet most anything with enthusiasm. A closer look shows that he seems to act somewhat differently at times-he can be reserved with his own emotions, and can even be empathetic at times if one strikes a chord with him. He treasures his friends and others he keeps close greatly, and suffers a drastic change in personality if even one of them is lost-sometimes reverting to a moping wreck of his former self, other times becoming a far stronger, more determined character in order to save them again.

He wasn't always like this-three years prior to the first game, his father, who Subaru idolized greatly, disappeared with the space station he was on, Peace, and from then on Subaru closed his heart to nearly everyone save his mother, frightened to love again. He lived the three years prior to the first game as a soft-spoken, self-isolated kid who refused to seek connections to others, fearing the pain of losing them again. It takes meeting the alien fugitive, War-Rock, and the highly emotional battles that happen with him, to cause Subaru to interact with others again, and to slowly learn that he can, indeed, make friends, and that he does have the power to protect them.

Even after that large initial change, he still learns from his battles. During the events of the second game, he was slowly overwhelmed by the public's knowledge of his and War-Rock's fused form, Rockman, and their sudden lauding of his heroic actions. He slowly began to fold under the public's expectations of him, breaking completely into his former self when he was unable to save any of his friends save for one (the said friend then proceeded to scold him back into shape). Eventually, he learned that he had to simply do the best he could-even if he failed expectations he would leave a torch for another to pick up. He learned courage.

The third game sees him grow into a leader figure in the face of loss-when his friends are taken from him, seemingly smitten dead in the blink of an eye, he starts to assume control, and encourages others around him not to give up. This hints at a charismatic side to his character-that he is, indeed, slowly adopting Rockman's characteristics as his own.

Subaru treasures a long standing dream to become an astronaut and visit space, fueled by his father's disappearance and a desire to find him. Even after his dad has returned home, that passion is still there.

Gem Considerations: Rainbow Obsidian!

Rainbow obsidian (like all obsidians) is considered a protective and grounding stone. It is particularly useful for recovering from emotional wounds, as it helps release hooks that others have left in the heart in order to replenish the heart's energy. This actually ties well to Subaru's character development across all three games, as a running theme in the series is Subaru not only getting over the loss of his father, but growing beyond it and into his own person. This happens to the point that by the beginning of the third game, Subaru is able to confidently say that he doesn't want to be compared to his dad-he wants to make his own path in life. It is also a stone that absorbs negative or heavy energies, which can be channeled back into the earth. Part of Subaru's abilities as Rockman include being able to absorb the waste energy of Denpa-Noise-and channel it into powerful transformations and attacks. Rainbow obsidian is also a reflective stone-it allows you to see yourself honestly and furthers your spiritual growth. Subaru has had to face down multiple opponents that reflected his own fears and flaws in his earliest days as Rockman, and facing them down and solving the problems of the opponents afterwards has helped Subaru himself grow beyond his own loss and fears. Rainbow obsidian, in the end, is a stone that really helps you delve into your consciousness and to help you introspect, so while in the game, Subaru will probably end up learning to really integrate the identity of "Rockman" into himself as a person. At the end of the third game, his secret identity is revealed to all, but he's taken from shortly after this, so he really hasn't had time to really experience people seeing him as the hero Rockman. Learning about his true inner self, integrating the hero with the young boy still growing into his own person...it'll be a learning experience for sure!

Power considerations:
List Three Powers You Would Like Your Character To Have:
  • Weapon Materialization: Handgun/pistol (RockBuster)

  • Weapon Ability: Weapon Copy (can only mimic one other weapon at a time, however)

  • Electrokinesis

Subaru, on his own, has no powers. His ability to see Denpa comes from the Visualizer on his head, and all his other powers come from when he transforms together with War-Rock (who, needless to say, isn't around). He's actually already used to the idea of having powers, although having them alone without turning into Rockman is a bit of a mental block-he may actually just naturally shift his clothing into that more comfortable form if ever in battle. He's actually also already very much used to the idea of fusing to gain greater power! However, the fusion as Rockman in his own canon very much still leaves his mind separate from War-Rock's and Subaru himself in control, so this would definitely throw him and possibly the fusion itself off the first time it may happen! Overall, however, Subaru's most likely relieved that he still has abilities that he can use to protect those around him, like he's become used to having over his own canon events.
